THIS is why I respect Malcolm X. He spoke out when new information came to light and rejected the hypocrisy shown within the black Muslim movement he had partaken in. He agreed with the values that encouraged Muslim followers to resist alcohol and adultery and criminal activity, but he stood up against what it was being misused for under the tutelage of Elijah Muhammad. That took integrity. I can acknowledge that despite personally not seeing much value in the Muslim religion considering how so many of its current followers worldwide are choosing to behave and/or what they’re tolerating out of their fellow Muslims. But I continue to respect and appreciate the messages of Malcolm X. His words remain important for guiding us in regards to the change that came over him and his willingness to call it out for what it was. He was a truly principled man.
