Another evening of existential reckoning (oh joy)

Was actually perusing a Sam Harris clip like I so very rarely ever care to do. Never been much of a fan of the guy. But found a segment where I agreed with him how people are factioning off into political tribes. Guess this is what Religions dying can morph into. Gotta put that energy toward something, somewhere. And now politics is the name of the game. The new beacon on which to direct our religious devotion.

Human beings are religious by our very natures. Have always been inclined toward religiosity and still are. Evolved this way. So even though we like to think we’re dropping all that and turning our attention toward the formation of a secular society, that inclination still resides within us, whether we’re conscious of it or not. Expresses itself in various ways. Political tribalism to whatever degrees. New herds to lose ourselves within.

Lots of things to lose oneself in nowadays. So much freedom we barely know what to do with it.

Freedom to make all sorts of (good or bad) choices too. That’s one of those natural rights granted to us by Nature. Some call it Free Will, though it can’t help but come with limitations.

Still. Pretty darn free in the U.S. currently.

Free to buy an assortment of delicacies and enticements. Free to partake in a number of legal drugs, including alcohol (and marijuana in some states). Free to think whatever we want. Free to vote for whomever we want, assuming our nation’s voting apparatus is even trustworthy any longer, and assuming you’re not barred from doing so due to certain felony charges.

Free to read books. Tons of libraries around for folks who lack funds. Inexpensive entertainment as well as educational if we push ourselves to seek and explore. But that’s a choice. Comes back to exercising all this Freedom we’ve been blessed with.

Choices. Attention paid to where? Habits. Options. Alternatives. Decisions. Backed by actions.

Come to find out, it’s very easy to get lost in this 21st Century. lol  True story.

Values. What matters most?

What were the seven deadly sins again?

SLOTH

ENVY

LUST

GLUTTONY

GREED

PRIDE

WRATH

Good to keep in mind. As I sit here tonight as a sloth, once again, pondering while wandering around the internet. Satiating my legal vices. Ever look at that list and wind up having to check every box? Whether past or present, all the same we are afflicted by excesses that can prove destructive, and not only to our own selves. Obviously.

So then what? Wait for motivation to come and sweep us along on our way? Doesn’t work like that.

Some good books I’ve been contemplating on over the last several months are:

Thinking of canceling my Audible subscription for a spell so I can just refocus on these and other titles. Those books there are really informative and thought-provoking. Not needing to continue on in my studies until I get re-oriented with the aid of those books. They do help. But of course it ultimately comes down to one’s individual efforts. Application of lessons learned.

Videos of interest watched the last couple of days (more SJWs, stupid political propaganda and BLM — oh my!)

Going in reverse order…

“‘White People Give Me Your Money’ – BLM Supporters Keep Sinking” by Andywarski:

LOL! Those guys crack me up! So true though. That BLM agitator was a pain in the ass. And for what? Because supposedly all white folks suck? Bah! Come now. We all are awakening to the realization that approximately 3% of the general population—a portion dominated by young black males specifically—are responsible for more than 50% of the violence and thefts in this country. DISPROPORTIONATE. Learn the term. As habitual repeat offenders. Get acquainted with the reality being reflected at all of us right about now. Been ramping up and here we all are. Seems that Obama’s administration may have made matters worse. Looks that way currently at least. Speaking my truth.

Some Black Guy’s video “Defending Trump Is NOT An Endorsement: A Rant”:

Been liking his stuff.

Hard Bastard’s video “The Guardian Openly Condones Violence Against Political Opponents, Donald Trump Voters”:

Loving his channel so far.

More from Hard Bastard, “The Left Resorts To Slander & Violence To Silence Disagreement. JonTron, Brittany Pettibone”:

“Punching Nazis at the UC Berkeley Riots” by Sargon of Akkad:

Milo Yiannopoulos “Thrashes Heckling Muslim Women At New Mexico”:

“Milo: Left can’t tolerate anyone who doesn’t agree with them”:

Terrible how those protesters behaved. Totally disrespectful. Deserved to be arrested, in the least.

“Real Racism and ‘Bogus’ Black Lives Matter (Larry Elder Interview Pt. 1)”

A Rubin Report video:

While I don’t agree with him on everything, having read a book by Larry Elder in the past, I do think his views on race relations and prejudice are spot on.

“Are Sane Liberals Centrists Now? Political Identity, Media Literacy, And The War Against The Left” (plus my thoughts)

Appreciated that video by the Hard Bastard. Stumbled across his channel recently and have been enjoying his content.

I agree with him there that one doesn’t have to move in any direction at all and yet now may appear more centrist relative to the current political situation. The reason being that so many others are swinging to the extremes, particularly the Leftist extreme. That then pulls libertarian-leaning folks like myself toward the center by comparison since the whole spectrum is going lopsided. I probably lean a bit further conservative than the Hard Bastard (though he did opt to vote for Trump in the end and I stuck with Gary Johnson), but my own views still remain pretty socially liberal. Not much has changed there recently. Maybe a slight shift rightward in reaction to so much of the fuckery we keep witnessing and due to getting sick of the SJW tantrum-fest. Gets old. But the core beliefs I’ve stood by for a couple decades now (namely, personal autonomy rights and protection of liberty and justice) remain intact and unswayed. The past several months are starting to make me rethink my opposition to the militarization of domestic police forces though (sadly enough).

The points showcased there by T.J. (The Amazing Atheist) were salient. His own full video follows:

Sometimes I agree with T.J., but other times he goes far beyond where I can go. Probably because he acts extreme himself in order to maintain popularity. Either way…

The most important question we’re faced with now is how to move forward. On what principles and values? With what vision in mind? He’s right that many of us aren’t interested in returning to some past point in history (assuming that were even possible), nor are we open to living under some new form of theocracy (Christian or otherwise). The “reset button” people seem intent on pressing sounds like a call for civil war, which is in nobody’s best interest. And if we weaken our society to a great extent, we’ll be leaving ourselves open to subversion by outsiders and rebellious factions among us with aims and ambitions that are ultimately undemocratic, unjust, and ideologically motivated by “ideals” already proven problematic in foreign nations. That’s no good either.

For those who desire communism, why not relocate to countries with such political schemes and allow Western societies to do as they will? Go live there and observe its reality firsthand and see whether it’s what you really want when the rubber hits the pavement. Go there and cry to their police about your civil rights and police brutality. And if Russia is such a monster that has offended your preferred presidential candidate, then why do so many of these vocal Democrats espouse ideological rhetoric not unlike that employed by Russia in decades past? Why push to create here in the U.S. that which you claim to despise elsewhere in the world? None of it makes any sense.

And on Islam…I have no loyalty to Islam. If Muslim people wish to live here and accept our justice system, with the full understanding that we strive to maintain strict boundaries between church and state (theoretically at least — we could do better at this) which means their Sharia Law cannot and will not take precedence, then fine. Go through the legal channels and welcome to it. But I don’t want us to suffer at the hands of foreign extremists (or domestic extremists either, for that matter). They have countries where they can live according to their beliefs, so it’s not mandatory that they come here, especially if their goal is to subvert our system and culture. Can’t stand that notion. I’ve always been grateful I wasn’t born in Saudi Arabia and am not acquainted with that half of my ethnic heritage up-close and personal, and I’ll be damned if it comes here and tries to push its subjugation scheme. That’s bullshit. It’s not the American way. In fact, it’s as backward as can be. The Muslims we tend to get along with practice a more liberalized version of their religion, not their fanatical minority. I am admittedly scared of the influence radicalized immigrants may have on our general safety and ways of life in America. Can’t deny that. Always have been nervous of their cultures since I’d be automatically deemed a heretic within them. No doubt. So it’s not in my own personal best interest to accept their potential influence uncritically. Feminists who defend them on multicultural grounds be damned.

Not all cultures are created equal, obviously. And perhaps we’re all biased in accordance with what we’ve experienced and what we value. Which is just life. Call it prejudice. Call it ethnocentrism or xenophobia. I care not. Not all prove compatible when living in close proximity. Sometimes space and freedom to be away from one another does more good than cramming us all together and expecting us to work shit out. Some differences won’t be sorted out anytime soon. Especially not where one group aspires to dominate all others (according to their interpretations of commandments in their holy book).

Equality under the Law is a concept that remains lost on a lot of people, even now as we’ve collectively stepped into the 21st century. Sad to see it also now appears lost on however many Democrats and their ilk within our own country. Sometimes people can’t fully appreciate what they have until it’s gone…

My patience continues to wane for so-called Leftists and “progressives”

Back in for the evening after work and have some thoughts to get off my chest here.

First off, let me note that a very close female friend of mine called again today and has been over time relating stories about her crazy female cousin. They’re both a little younger than me, which is to say in their early 30s. Won’t go into details here out of respect for my friend and her family’s privacy, but I will say that her cousin is shaping up to be the quintessential SJW (Social Justice Warrior). From talk of feeling triggered all the damn time to mentions of desiring a safe space, from manipulatively mistreating her family members and then accusing them of “bullying” when they attempt to stand up for themselves in response, to grooming her own fiance into a therapist-of-sorts to coddle and cater to her every whim AND outright bashing others publicly for their conservative views to the point where she brought an older female family member to tears — the chick has serious problems. Wouldn’t care so much if her problems didn’t impact so many others in her family, including people I care about. So I’ve been listening to more about her shenanigans in recent weeks, and the only advice I can offer my friend is to take a tough love approach at this point, for her and her family members’ own sake. Chances are the crazy cousin won’t ever see the light and might continue casting blame until her dying breath, but her allegations are false and the amount of sheer torment and pain she’s foisting upon people who love her is straight-up unacceptable. If that woman can’t get her shit together better than this then she deserves to go it alone. What she puts her parents through is particularly upsetting to learn about. All while she remains financially dependent on them. Ugh. Anyway, I’ve said enough on that. They will have to contend with that matter among their own.

That along with so much else has had me thinking lately about how little respect I’m feeling for the so-called Political Left these days. Just running out of compassion for a good many of them. Let it be known that I exclude classical liberals from this assessment in so far as they openly choose to call these weirdos out. But so many who profess to be “liberal” truly are not. Rather, they’re proving to be the most intolerant amongst us.

Who cares if somebody else voices a view you disagree with? Either argue against it or move on. What you don’t have the right to do, at least if you’re a person possessing any real integrity, is to dox them and basically invite violence upon them and their family members and loved ones simply because you disagree with their political positions. You don’t have a right to print false allegations against them in an effort to harm their credibility, lest you want your own credibility destroyed in the process. You don’t have the right to sucker-punch people who are in no way menacing you or threatening violence against you. That’s some cowardly shit adopted by low-grade jerks and ninny-babies with no scruples or backbone. And if your violent tactics wind you up shot by people attempting to defend themselves, I, for one, will not be alarmed and grief-stricken. Because you’re an idiot behaving in such a way that is destined to get you removed from the gene pool, and perhaps rightly so.

There’s only so much love to go around at this point in time. I’ve got compassion oozing out the yin-yang, but not for folks who aim to visit harm upon others without just cause. Having your feelings hurt does not qualify as just cause. For the record.

What values do any of us continue to share in common nowadays? I see so many people acting pissed off, speaking out against the System and taking things to such an extreme that it appears their goal is to undermine our entire civilization in favor of something extraordinarily different, something communistic/socialistic/collectivistic primarily. Well, that’s not what we’re supposed to be about in the U.S. Maybe European countries are open to such shenanigans, but Americans are known for our rebellious and individualistic instincts and drives. So good luck with that. Don’t think it will work out in the ways that some may envision.

Why would you want to completely undermine our civilization? What do you imagine you’ll gain from such an endeavor? Do you honestly believe the rich will remain here to be pillaged and taxed to the hilt in order to further support your income re-distribution efforts? And what will you do when they’re gone and you’re left at the mercy of  criminal elements without enough law enforcement officials to combat them effectively? I wish people would go deeply down into this rabbit hole to explore the possibilities of what they envision, because one thing life has been teaching me is that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. It’s oft repeated because it’s true. Because someone can envision a certain outcome in no way ensures that that outcome will be brought into fruition. So many complicating factors, so many unforeseen variables. Such is our social life, whether here or abroad, today or at any other point in history.

Life is complicated, life is mad. I witness so much passive-aggressiveness, so many pretensions, so much back-slapping for presumed victories, and yet so little honest and deep introspection. A political movement cannot save us from ourselves nor undo past problems nor perfect any society. Many have tried and all have failed. Because life’s stickier than that and less predictable — less capable of being made predictable than some might wish to believe. The top-down approach has severe limitations and tons of room for abuses and inversions of justice. History has taught us this again and again. Yet some people don’t want to accept that answer and wish to believe instead that it can nowadays somehow be tweaked just right to create the utopian outcome they so desire. This is a pipe dream, folks. Time will prove this once again…

Some days I grow so tired of my fellow humans. But then I aim to remember that it all simply is what it is and that no one promised us a rose garden. We must learn to roll with it in our own ways. I personally have chosen resistance on some level as my response, but that doesn’t mean I’m closed-minded to all these people and their concerns or unwilling to engage the reasonable among them in dialogue. They are still my brothers and sisters whether they can appreciate that or not. But then again, sometimes family deserves to be disowned. Time will tell how that shakes out too.

Will continue observing and pondering…
