Late-night tunes in early October 2016

Had kind of a funny night. Not funny haha, funny odd. Not a major deal or anything, just the sort of thing to help remind me why I seriously need to stay home more often and out of the barscene, doing something more productive with my time. As a bar-pal reminded me tonight, no one in a bar is truly your friend. Can’t be true, full-on friends with alcoholics or people who earn their living off of serving folks alcohol. Lots of truth in that, which I damn well know after 15 years of regularly frequenting these scenes. Got a little irritated, but again, it’s not a huge issue. Just the typical stupid drama one can expect from time to time. No point in even spelling out the details on here. What’s done is done and now it’s over. Will remember to keep it “hi” and “bye” with that individual going forward. Twice bitten, thrice shy.

Not everybody out there is willing to accept one for whom she or he is. Looking to change you, to offer unsolicited advice in an attempt to mold you toward some sort of socially-acceptable standard. Why? Who knows? Human nature, apparently. Perhaps because misery loves company (whether consciously so or not). Or perhaps because it’s all some people know or have any imagination for, seeing as how it’s become the norm. *shrugs*  Not my problem either way. Have plenty of shit to work on and am aware and am doing so, but some random dude’s uninformed opinions aren’t high on my list of concerns right now, nor should they be. Never been interested in him beyond just chatting and that isn’t working out so well. My bad, his bad. Is what it is. We’re not all compatible with one another. Not all are good actors or socially savvy in all situations.

Enough said. Let’s listen to some tunes before the night evaporates.

Heard this one for the first time about a week ago. “Drink Up And Go Home” by Jerry Garcia and David Grisman:

Another new one for me, “Country Ghetto” by JJ Grey and Mofro:

A personal favorite, Junior Kimbrough’s “Lord, Have Mercy On Me”:

Gnarls Barkley – “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul”:

A new one I hadn’t listened to before tonight that played on Orange Is the New Black, Boondox – “Inbred Evil”:

Kinda disturbing.

Charles Bradley – “Love Bug Blues”:

Charles Bradley – “Why Is It So Hard”:

Bottega del Suono – “Beautiful” (cover of Christina Aguilera’s song):

Yet another from Orange Is the New Black soundtrack, Bobby Hamilton’s “Crazy Eyes for You” (1958):

Plain White T’s – “Hey There Delilah”:

Gotye – “Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra)”:

That one came across my radar again tonight and strikes me as currently relevant to re-listen to and watch. Glad to re-stumble across it by happenstance.

Haven’t sat with this one in many moons. Mazzy Star – “Fade Into You”:

A perennial favorite, Lou Reed’s “Walk On The Wild Side”:

A change of pace, this is a new one to come across tonight, Golden State Klezmers – “Freilach Fun Der Chupe”:

Talented performance there. And on that note it’s bedtime.
