Dammit, Microsoft!

God dammit. Every stinkin’ time I find some product I like they go and discontinue it! This time around it’s Windows XP Pro. And now I’m going through some hoop-jumping for downloading the wrong version of Java that’s no longer compatible with XP. Trying to download an earlier version currently. Pain in the ass. Youtube videos ceased playing.  Can’t comprehend..Grr…!!

Why do this? XP is your most popular operating system. But you already know that, of course. Frickin’ about money, like usual — what else??

Same with cars and fashions. Gotta sell you the latest and greatest to keep the money rolling in.

I don’t know if you’d get as much of a kick out of Neal Stephenson’s “In the Beginning was the Command Line” — a short book he published many years ago and which is now readable online. He argues that one of Microsoft’s biggest mistakes was trying to sell operating systems in the first place. They should have stuck to applications and given away the O/S. I think he’s right.

Hmmm… don’t much care for that auto-indented first line business. 😀

And the second link got broken… it’s the whole line there.

Hmm…sounds interesting. Will look into it.

I so wish Microsoft hadn’t become greedy corporate whore-mongers.

As for the indent, yeah, that’s my fault. Didn’t realize it would do that in the comment sections as well, but I’ve long-since forgotten what change I made to the theme to cause it be that way in order to change it back. Part of the problem with being non-tech savvy. 😛 Sorry about that.
