“You Were Too Ugly to Rape, So I Just Beat the Shit out of you” — showcasing a comment from one of my YT “fans”

Last night something sparked my memory of a comment left on my video about so-called “MGTOWs” sucking a lemon where this stranger (come to find out, the user Maxpound actually did reply to me at least twice previously on my video about Barbarossa’s admirers from late 2013, but otherwise I’m not familiar with the guy) came on to post this.

Haven’t taken time to learn the whole screen capture deal but perhaps I should. Eventually. Tonight I’ll just try to take a photo of it with my handycam.

anal_cunt_maxpound_screencap2

And any other camera I own would’ve worked better than that. ha  Apologies. I’m lazy and the others probably aren’t charged. But it’s clear enough to discern. Once again, you can click here to see it directly in the video in question’s comment section.

That was a comment linking me to this heavy metal (“noisegrind”) music clip by the band Anal Cunt. Not really wanting to post up the playable version here. That music entirely sucks. The message sucks, as does the title of the song, “You Were Too Ugly to Rape, So I Just Beat the Shit out of you.” Know of a better song (besides others by this band I’d never heard of before) that so accurately depict full psycho mode? Besides Insane Clown Posse.  not_amused

I know some people out there dig this shit for dark humor and to foster a sense of rebellion, but all input impacts us, in one way or another, and not always in ways we can predict or accurately detect. Not saying it makes people violent so much as I’d say this type of shit can and often enough does play into perpetuating people’s apathy. If you listen to this crap, it gets in your mind, whether you like it or not.

Makes me think of that horrible scene in the wonderful show Dexter where his sister is in that house with that maniac wearing the bull costume (season 7, episode 3, titled “Buck The System”). Wanna talk about creepy. Sick, sad shit.

Some folks around us are obviously going insane. By that I’m not referring to “mental illnesses” and psychiatric labels, per se — just good old-fashioned crazy. Divvies up however it does. And no one can say with certainty what sanity even is, but it’s pretty apparent what it is not, at least in some cases and for some people. Such as in cases like this.

Sitting in a room with strobe lights on, listening to thrasher metal screaming about rape, nurturing the animosity you feel inside = not good for one’s psyche. The amount of exposure to such shit is also an important factor, and this is obviously compounded by other psychological trauma one may have experienced.

One thing alone (like music or gaming or films or raunchy magazines or porn or listening to an endless stream of bullshit from the mainstream media, etc.) doesn’t make a person violent necessarily. But a preponderance of bullshit certainly doesn’t help.

We’re all (potentially) violent — it’s part of who we are. Part of the human experience, in whatever shape or form it may take. Sadism is a specifically human trait because we’re the only ones capable of thoroughly comprehending the pain we inflict on others, even indirectly. Thanks to empathy, whether we choose to acknowledge it or not.

Some people actively work at numbing off their consciences. Perpetually. As apparently did the singer of that band Anal Cunt, Seth Putnam, who died in 2011 of what was assumed to be a heart attack at age 43, after having also put himself in a coma for a month back in 2004 through the use of “a cocktail of crack-cocaine, alcohol, heroin, and two months’ worth of Ambien sleeping pills” (according to his wikipedia page). I looked it up tonight because I was curious.

What made me think of this is someone mentioned a new deal that’s hit the YT scene labeled “metalgate.” And that got me thinking about this comment I received from Maxpound a little while back. And I wonder if someone sent something like this to me if others aren’t sending this sort of crap to other females online. If so, it’s to be expected that women would be taking exception, most especially feminists. I’m now wondering how much shit like this is bandied about and tossed at people as an insult because some weirdo didn’t like something they said that nowhere near expressed that level of aggression. It’s not just reciprocity, tit for tat here — it’s this dude flat-out being a dick. Why? I imagine because he finds this sort of thing comical, Maxpound likely being a sock puppet account for someone who wants to rage like an asshole online with no repercussions. And I didn’t give him any. Left his comment up. It’ll stay up unless he removes it (though someone appears to have marked it as spam and I can’t undo that — the comment still shows up in the comment section on my end). He stands as one more testament of so-called “MGTOW” BS I run up against online (as someone who doesn’t visit Reddit or Tumblr or FreeThoughtBlogs and typically ignores drama on Twitter). From what I do see when I read comment sections and forum threads, such shenanigans are not rare. And such tactics don’t win over people to caring about whatever your concerns are.

I realize this is where so-called “MGTOWs” will bark about how they don’t care about women’s opinions and aren’t trying to attract female support. Yeah, obviously. Way to go in promoting sex segregation. Except it won’t prove to do anything other than showcase certain select men’s propensity for behaving like total jackasses. Because some feminists behave badly too isn’t a good excuse. Thought these guys were trying to claim some sort of superiority over females — well then fucking act like it and hold yourselves to higher standards than that instead of patting one another on the back and pretending like everything is a big “satire.” Show what you’re made of. And if it’s little more than stupid filth like that song, then good riddance! Get to steppin’! Didn’t want your ass in the gene-pool anyway!

And people get all into serious denial mode when I try to talk about how the world is changing and the possible dark and scary effects of mass social media. Really good illustration of exactly what I’m talking about, and your analysis is very much what I’m seeing and thinking, too.

    • vklaatu says:

Actually, your moral panic is rather misplaced. Violence per capita is on a decline, and has been for quite a long time. You might want to check out Steven Pinker’s “The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined” He amassed a fair amount of evidence to counter this kind of paranoia.

      • Byenia says:

Moral panic? Paranoia? LOL Just sharing my thoughts and observations. And like I said already, it comes down to preponderance of bullshit, not just one form of input. Didn’t make the argument that the music alone leads to violence. Read what I actually said. Repetitive and prolonged exposure to this sort of crap seems to induce apathy more often than incite violence.

I have that book by Steven Pinker (received as a gift). Haven’t read it yet since I’m not much of a fan of the man’s arguments, there being plenty of evidence I am familiar with that disputes many of his claims. Someday perhaps I will get around to it.

But it doesn’t make it “moral panic” because some folks take issue with people posting comments intended to insult that link to Anal Cunt’s “You Were Too Ugly to Rape, So I Just Beat the Shit out of you.” Pretty sure most average, ordinary people wouldn’t appreciate such a gesture at all. It’s rude, it’s mean-spirited, it’s inappropriate (for the situation and also just because that song and its message completely sucks), and it in no way improves the recipients of such comments’ online experience. Yet people like that don’t care. And you seem to be defending that crap while criticizing me for drawing attention to what I received and happen to not appreciate.

Did I call for a ban? No. Just said the shit sucks, and people who sends others crap like that unsolicited are full-blown sadists. That is my opinion.

And yet people wonder why the internet is such a hostile place…

        • vklaatu says:

Actually, the more hostile it is, the better. I’m with Freud on this.

          • Byenia says:

Now you’re just pulling stuff out of a hat…

            • vklaatu says:

Wouldn’t you rather have our collective dark side out in the open? I would. There’s no evidence that having it out in the open has really done harm, while there’s more than enough evidence to say that having it in the closest is a very, Very, VERY bad idea.

              • Byenia says:

What would be even better is if people didn’t flocked toward that kind of sadistic shit (referring to the music clip provided as an example above), and better still if they didn’t forward it on to others online as a form of insult.

I’m not against all “dark” art or music or whatever. But whatever dark material I delve into, I don’t wield it as a means of intentionally trying to make others nervous or upset. I didn’t go seek that guy out and then take issue with his personal, private music collection. He came out and blasted it for others to see, framing it as a response to words spoken in my video that he didn’t like. Do you not understand how that’s problematic?

It’s indecent, but it goes beyond that. And besides, it’s not out in the open who that person is hiding behind the screenname Maxpound. He’s not actually showcasing his own self and his sick musical preferences. No, he’s just creating a hostile and mean-spirited atmosphere with that sort of move. So he’s still in the closet while at the same time spreading hatefulness online. I don’t see that as positive.

      • Wyrd Smythe says:

Yes, thank you! I totally misplaced my moral panic (and my sunglasses). Have you seen them?

    • Byenia says:

      Hi Wyrd,

People do go straight into denial mode when someone critiques our beloved technologies, it’s so true. Can folks not recognize that just because we derive some benefits that doesn’t mean there aren’t also negative consequences? But they don’t like to think about that, I assume because it calls into question their participation in the situation and they fear being pressured into making some sort of sacrifice. Or they’re terrified their preciouses will be banned or censored as a result.

But because so many won’t take notice of what’s going on and what their kids are steeping themselves in and how crazies throughout the world find brand-new ways to unite and further radicalize one another through this medium, we all wind up with bullshit to deal with. I so wish parents actually monitored what their kids are doing online and put a stop to them behaving like little shits. They shouldn’t be handed cell phones that connect to the internet in the first place. That’s an adult technology — not suitable for kids.

But kids aside, the internet is certainly filled with creeps. And I’m willing to bet plenty look like average Joes if we passed them on the street, and many probably are complete cowards face-to-face. But online they can pretend to be gods. They can hone their skills at inflicting psychological harm onto others and drumming up fear when online. They can be as bad as they want to be, and we’re none the wiser as to who exactly is behind the anonymous screenname.

That certainly does change things. Yet, just today I had someone on another video comment thread remark how the internet is so awesome since we get to enjoy all this free speech and can’t effectively shut each other down. Like there could be no possible downside to that. 😛

*sigh* Anyway, back to wandering around the youtube now. Hope you’re doing well, Wyrd, despite having to take notice of evermore idiots and assholes abounding.

      • Wyrd Smythe says:

It’s the same phenomenon that has people flipping you the bird from the safety of their cars when that same person wouldn’t dream of trying that shit to your face.

Assholes hiding behind keyboards isn’t anything new — they’ve been around since the 1970s. A saving grace back then was that you needed some tech savvy and smarts to even get on the internet, so there was a — if not better — more intelligent, more educated crowd then.

The truth is, we tend not to go backwards with technology. It’s addictive and requires real force of will to step away from its advantages (which are myriad), and it’s not entirely clear to me that stepping away is the best thing. It might be better to move forward and find ways to live with it better. There is a growing groundswell of interweb etiquette that may help self-police things.

I do think we need to better recognize how literally addictive (like a gambling or sex addiction) the interweb actually. It messes with your dopamine system in exactly the same way a gambling addiction does.

I’m hanging in there, considering the season and all. The warm weather lately is nice. Hope all is going well with you as well!

        • Byenia says:

You said: “It’s the same phenomenon that has people flipping you the bird from the safety of their cars when that same person wouldn’t dream of trying that shit to your face.”

          Yah. Word, Wyrd.

I remain open to ideas on how to handle online interaction since I have no intention of walking away from this medium. Most folks are probably on board with the idea of internet etiquette, but it only takes a small minority to create havoc. Thorns in the ass. 😛

Oh yeah, the internet is most definitely addictive, I can attest to that as one addict out in the bunch.

The weather’s been unseasonably warm around here the last several days. Been really nice. 🙂 Gonna drop back down to the 30s tomorrow, but ah well. Such is life. Just hope it doesn’t keep raining and turn to sleet or ice over.

          • Wyrd Smythe says:

Yeah, that is one thing about warm winters with temps anywhere close to the freezing mark. I actually prefer my winter to, late in November, drop below freezing and stay there until spring.

    • Byenia says:

Yeah, I still occasionally reflect on that comment and song. Kinda wish I didn’t. Times are a-changin’, that much is clearly true…

  2. vklaatu says:

The crime rate is down. Need I say more?

    • Byenia says:

How is that relevant? What is the point you’re trying to make here?

      • vklaatu says:

It’s a very simple point. Death metal and Grand Theft Auto are harmless outlets that civilization has needed all along. I think young men are better off with these outlets the same way De Sade was better off after he wrote The 120 Days of Sodom.

        • Byenia says:

Do you know why the Marquis de Sade wrote 120 Days of Sodom? It was basically a depiction of hell on earth that was rumored to be inspired by what was occurring among the elite of his day (mid-to-late 1700s). Sade was actually a very political figure who spoke for common people and was arguably not much of an actual sadist himself. And I don’t know how you think he was better off after having written that considering it landed him back in another insane asylum.

But I’m not here to defend Sade. I have mixed feelings over his work either way. And I most definitely am not here to defend Grand Theft Auto or any other video game. Take the gamer talk elsewhere — it’s not my bag and I won’t be pulled into that.

I provided an example of someone posting a really shitty comment and elaborated on my views. You take issue with this why? Because you wish to spread the message that all are just “harmless outlets”? How do you really know that? We’re all guinea pigs at this stage and we lack long-term studies to really give us any clear idea of what impacts who and how much and in what ways. So it’s all speculation at this point. I understand that. I recognize my views expressed are speculative, but my reaction is genuine. This displeases me. You don’t have to like that it displeases me, but a more effective way to subvert my critiques would be to call out assholes like Maxpound who post such bullshit to people online. Otherwise it looks like everybody else finds that perfectly fine, which then does make people nervous, as to be expected, because that sentiment expressed there was intended as cruel and menacing. You see that as harmless, as though words never impact a person. I disagree. And I’d be doubly irritated if I found out a much younger person had been sent that bullshit.

Everything’s not a joke and not everybody out here is willing to just stand by mutely and let others say and do whatever the fuck they want with reckless abandon and complete lack of decency. You don’t have to agree, that’s fine. I shared this in my space for others who happen to be interested. I’m not advocating banning music or games or whatever else, but I am taking issue with people who behave like jerks.

          • Byenia says:

And I consider it important today to emphasize I am NOT advocating banning such individuals, despite their lack of decency. Yeah, good to know Maxpound is an asshole. Better to know it outright than not to realize it at all. I’m cool with that. But I can still bitch about it. Freedom of expression for both us, I suppose.
